Meet Jayne
We would like to introduce the newest member of the Micah Liverpool team. Meet Jayne Hennessy. Jayne joined us at the end of April as our new Recruitability Programme Lead. She has a keen interest in social welfare and comes with a background in both education and training. She is also very familiar with Micah Liverpool as she has volunteered alongside us at our St Dunstan’s community market for some time. More recently, she helped to set up our second community market at C3 Liverpool Church. We asked Jayne for her thoughts on her first few weeks in her new role. Here’s what she said:
“It has been a privilege to be able start work with Micah; an organisation which I have worked alongside for the last couple of years. I have huge respect for the work that Micah do in the local community and am excited to be able to get involved in further developing the recruitability programme and help more people, with barriers to employment, back into work.”
Zarach
Micah Liverpool have joined up with national furniture poverty charity Zarach to deliver a new bed poverty project based in Liverpool. We are proud to launch the pilot based in Central Liverpool with a view to registering schools and delivering beds in September. Our goal is to help ensure all children to have somewhere safe and comfortable to sleep with good, consistent access to healthy and nutritious food in order for them to succeed at school. Not having regular nutritious meals at home, or not having an appropriate bed to sleep in, means that children do not have the basic foundations for healthy growth or the energy to concentrate at school and learn. We are asking for donation of the following items for this project:
- Single Duvets (New)
- Single Duvet Covers (New)
- Single Fitted Sheets (New)
- Pillows (New)
- Pyjamas – all children’s sizes (New)
- Toothpaste, toothbrush, shower gel, period products, deodorant
If you can support our project through volunteering or donations please email liverpool@zarach.org for more information.
Summer Hunger Appeal
With the school holidays fast approaching, we are asking for your help to ensure that children do not go hungry this summer.
Foodbanks across the country always see a spike in demand for emergency food over the summer holidays. Mainly from families who rely on free school meals during term time. With the schools closed, many kids lose out on their main meal of the day for a period of six weeks. And families who are already struggling financially are faced with additional expense. This year, Micah Liverpool, expects the demand will be particularly high as the soaring energy costs and spiralling food prices will mean that many families will have no choice but to turn to our foodbanks. If you are a business, church, school or other organisation and would like to organise a collection on behalf of Micah Liverpool, we will be happy to collect your items in our van. Please call 0151 702 7206 to arrange a convenient pick up time.
Recruitability Programme
As you may know, Micah Liverpool runs a 10 week programme with the aim of supporting long-term and newly unemployed adults back into work. The programme takes a holistic approach providing emotional support/confidence building as well as practical recruitability skills, a qualification and a work experience placement. We are now taking referrals for our next courses:
Summer Cohort: 27th July – 28th September (each Thursday)
Autumn Cohort: 10th October – 14th December (each Tuesday)
